Memebox Wake Up Makeup Special 37 review, unboxing

A beauty box that promises a fresh, well-rested "just-woke-from-beauty-sleep" look.

I had a wisdom tooth surgically extracted yesterday and have retired from public life for a week as a result, but there are enough posts in the wings to keep the content flowing while I look like I've got a bad case of painful mumps.
Memebox Special 37 is called the "Wakeup Makeup" box - no, that does not mean it has products that you apply as soon as you wake up, nor does it give you a bedhead. This box contains products that give you brighter skin and eyes, making you look as if you had extra beauty sleep.
Regular sleep went for a toss sometime last year for me, and I'm a sucker for anything that promises a well-rested look. I expected basic foundation or BB cream, eye liner, mascara - vital for my eyes to look open - a fresh pink lip tint, de-puffing eye gel, concealer and something to soothe the skin.

Royal Nature The Original Soothing Blemish Balm SPF30

A BB cream containing calendula, chamomile and portulaca extracts, cypress oil and "angel's tear complex" - I am NOT sure, but Google's first few search results seem to think this is a fancy word for hyaluronic acid, and I'm too knackered to look more right now - this is supposed to relieve and brighten the skin. All very well, but most Korean BB and CC creams sent out in beauty boxes are too pale for my liking. Will be given away to Edward Cullen. You will see the swatch further below. Buy it here.

It’s Skin Babyface Young Girl Gel Eye Liner 

This is my favourite product in this Memebox. A creamy gel eyeliner in cute packaging. I got purple-and-black. The purple is dry and not easy to work with, but the black is easy to apply, long-lasting and smudge-proof, as good as any gel eyeliner I have tried. This comes with a brush that is too thick  to work, so I use a thin angled brush. Buy it here. 

Shara Shara Creamy Dual Auto Eye Stick

One end is an eyeliner and the other is a neutral eyeshadow. I like the creamy eyeshadow, but the eyeliner is dry and flaky. To be honest, I prefer gel and liquid eyeliner to pencil any day. Buy it here.

Shara Shara Glitter Pearl Powder

This comes in cute packaging. My only gripe is that it is not as fine as some of the highlighters I am used to - Benefit Watt's Up, theBalm's Mary Lou Manizer and Bourjois So Delice are all very finely milled and subtler. More than a highlighter, a glitter powder is the right term for this product. Read more here.

Cheek Room Two Color Lip Gloss

Two colour is a huge misnomer here. If you scroll further below and check out the swatches, you'll find no colour at all - this goes on almost clear and there is no tint, irrespective of the shade you pick. Pigmentation is a joke. I fail to understand what this is doing in a box named Wakeup Makeup. Check out more shades here.

Bbia Downy Cheek Blush

This is a lightweight cream blush which blends in easily and smoothly. The shade is probably suitable for those who are NC25 or paler; I am a peach-blush person and this is not my cup of tea - think Barbie lipstick on the cheeks. Buy it here.

Cellbydate The Galacto Zero Essence

This is the bonus - and only skincare - product in the box. It is supposed to moisturise, maintain oil balance and even texture and soothe the skin. It is a fermented skincare product, and those are all the rage in Korean skincare, so I look forward to trying this out.

Summary

Not my favourite box; I had expected de-puffing to be the first thing in here, and I fail to see how glitter powder possibly gives a better-rested look than concealer. I like sound of the galactomyces essence and really like using the eyeliner, followed by the glitter powder. The rest of the products are in shades that are unsuitable for me, and are unsuitable for the theme in question.
