It has been a while since I picked up the Balm Voyage eyeshadow palette from theBalm, reviewed here. With irresistibly cute packaging and a nice range of colours, this palette is one of my favourite discoveries this year.
I am not a fan of yellow gold; I prefer white gold for jewellery and rose gold for makeup. I also prefer brighter eyeshadows. But having vowed to step outside my comfort zone this year, I decided to choose paler gold shades from the Balm Voyage palette, and, as you can see, they have thoroughly washed me out.
I kept the EOTD very un-smoky; perhaps lashings of deeper eyeshadow in the outer crease would have helped.
The eyeshadows in the Balm Voyage palette are named after airplane seats! I used C1, D3 and B4 for this look. D3 is a dusty gold rather than a bright yellow shade. It went all over my eyelids. The pearly ivory of C1 went into the inner corners, where you can see it stand out by a mile on my medium skintone, especially against my nose. Finally, I used B4, which is a shimmery brown, on the outer crease - just a little - to avoid the wholly pasty look.
The eyeshadows went above Kat von D High Voltage Eye Primer. I went with the Bourjois Erasable Eyeliner for this look. Not a very tight line as I was in a hurry. I lined the lower waterline with D1 eyeshadow from the Balm Voyage palette, using a wet brush. That is actually my favourite part about this look.
Not my best look, and too pale for my skintone, but I would have tried it out sometime anyway. I finished with Chanel's Le Volume de Chanel mascara. All photographs are in natural light. I've just realised that the reflection of my arms holding the camera is showing up in my eyes. I am growing out my eyebrows yet again, to achieve better shape, so you will find messy brows for a while.
This is my submission to the Smoky Eye Friday link-up hosted by Leticia of Cosmetics Aficionado. Do check out the other smoky eye looks below.
