Usually, I am not really fond of travel/all-makeup palettes, preferring eyeshadow palettes, and individual products such as mascara, concealer and face powder. But I do own two travel palettes - one from Clarins and the other from Lancome. I thought I would dig them out now, as I am leaving for Doha in two weeks' time and am about to pack for the trip.
This is the Clarins Travel Bright White Face Palette. I love the packaging. Inside the red external box is this cute, chic white rectangular "clutch".
No one seeing this clutch will think there's makeup inside. I'm tempted to remove the makeup and use the clutch on nights out.
Inside, you have a large mirror on one side and a silver-coloured plastic tray on the other, holding the makeup.
There's a mini Wonder Volume Mascara, which I didn't like, so I faithfully ignored its existence until it dried up nicely. And a mini Gloss Appeal in shade 04, Sorbet. I hate gloss and never use it, so that's a second tube gone to waste.
The palette has six eyeshadows - three lighter shades and three deeper colours. All sparkly. Nothing too bold. Two of the lighter colours are very chalky but the three deeper shades are fine. Not very pigmented; I've had to swipe a couple of times for the photographs and end up using Too Faced Shadow Insurance for the two lighter shades. Pale gold usually goes nicely into my inner corners, but there's something rather chalky and unblendable about this one and the pink one. Swatches in natural light and direct sunlight, respectively. Sorry both look a bit yellow - they were taken in the evening and the sun was playing with red, yellow and other warm colours.
The Powder Compact is smooth and, despite the palette being named "Bright White", blends perfectly well so much so you can't see where it is in the swatches (right extreme, beyond the blush)! They haven't specified the shade number or name anywhere. This shade would suits anyone who is NC37 or NC40. I don't think it would suit very pale or deeper skintones.
The blush is peachy-pink and sheer. I don't use blush regularly. There's a brush applicator for the powder and blush, which is okay, and one of those horrendous double-ended sponge applicators.
While this palette looked stunning at the airport, I'm not sure that the contents justify my purchasing it. I won't take this along with me for the sake of three decent eyeshadows and a powder compact! I'll swatch the Lancome Absolute Voyage soon. Expect some more travel-related posts over the next couple of weeks.
