Matte is everywhere this Fall. I am delighted by the trend. My face is so oily that matte makeup turns dewy on me almost immediately, so I like using matte makeup unless I am spending the day in air-conditioning. Now that I have quite a bit of new makeup to play with (click to see mid-year makeup haul), here is an FOTD.
The moment the new IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Matte Vol. 2 Romantics palette launched, I knew I would buy it. Playing with it has been absolute fun, and this makeup look features my favourite shades from the palette. I am also wearing the mattest lipstick ever - a recent discovery from Italy.
Scroll down for a matte makeup look featuring purple eyeshadow from the IT Cosmetics Romantics palette for Fall 2015.
I bought a Canon remote control because selfies are a nightmare and these FOTD photos are the first results of playing with it. The remote does not work with manual focus at all. Auto focus is easier, though exposure is only two seconds after you press the remote. What you do is, place the camera somewhere, half-press the shutter, run to the spot hoping you have not cut off your own head from the frame, point the remote and press the button, and hurriedly snatch your hand away from your mug and try to look like you are not waging war on the world, for two seconds.
Now for the products I used, and my thoughts on each one.
Eyes and brows
Kat von D High Voltage Eye Primer, reviewed hereBest dang eye primer in existence. I just bought my second tube. Genius in a tube, that's what. I have a tube of Too Faced Shadow Insurance, two tubes of UDPP and TheBalm's Put a Lid on it lying untouched ever since I discovered this stuff.
IT Cosmetics Naturally Pretty Vol. 2 Matte Romantics Palette
WAIT until you see the IT Cosmetics Romantics palette. I will talk about it in detail later this week. What a gorgie! I used Enchanting on the lids, Devotion in the crease, and Hope in the inner corners and on the browbone.
Makeup Revolution liquid eyeliner
Not too fond of the Makeup Revolution eyeliner so far; I prefer Coastal Scents and Bourjois. This is too thin and runny for my liking, but it is in my travel bag and will do in a pinch.
Pixi Beauty Large Lash Mascara
I usually love everything Pixi but this one was a dud. It did zilch for my already non-existent, sparse eyelashes. This was a GWP with a box of eyeliners, so maybe it was old stock or something?
Catrice Cosmetics Eyebrow Filler
An impulse buy from a drugstore in Antwerp, where I popped in to get away from the coldwave. I prefer Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade, Benefit BrowZings and Gimme Brow to this; it is somewhat clumpy.
Face
Benefit The Porefessional Face PrimerAn evergreen favourite; much overused. I need to repurchase Dr Brandt Pores No More and then you will see other primers in my FOTD posts.
Yves Saint Laurent Fusion Ink Foundation in BD55
I have a love-hate relationship with this foundie. On the one hand, I love the liquid-to-powder finish, and don't need setting powder. On the other hand, you can see the acne marks on the left side of my face and on the chin, and my face eats up this foundation after a few hours. So there is a tendency to over-apply the foundie. Maybe a different primer?
IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer in Tan, reviewed here
This stuff will hide everything. I bet even the Templar Treasure is covered by this concealer.
Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer
A touch of this matte bronzer completed the look.
Lips
Wycon Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in 04 BorgognaThis Italian lippie is M.A.T.T.E. with a vengeance. I will show it to you properly another day. I love the shade, but it needs a balm on top, and beautifully exfoliated lips beneath. And it lasts all day through Ratatouille Moussaka.
Here is another shot, with the eye makeup in view. Appalling mascara, that one.
